Hosting a graduation party at home?  Here's something a lot of people don't think about until it's too late: you have more usable space than you realize.

Most backyard tents get set up in the grass, and that works great for a lot of properties.  But if your yard is small or uneven, a frame tent can go right on your driveway or patio surface, no stakes required.  You can even extend it out from the garage to connect indoor and outdoor space, which gives you a covered area for food and drink while keeping the yard open for people to spread out.

A few things worth thinking through when you're planning:

• How many guests are you expecting?  A 20x20 tent comfortably fits about 40 people seated.
• Will you need tables and chairs inside the tent, or just overhead cover?
• Is there a power source nearby for lighting or a fan?
• Do you want sidewalls in case the weather turns?
